So, I'm gonna put this out there, fart and see who lights it.
I was a Republican from Nixon to W, and a die-hard conservative from Reagan through Clinton. I also have a degree in Political Science. So, I know all the talking points, the philosophical, economic, cultural, and political arguments behind Conservatism, Neo-Conservatism, and Libertarianism.
While I maintain a strong Libertarian streak, think '60s free love, not Grizzly Adams waiting for the apocalypse. Besides that, though, I call myself a Progressive these days, my former party having made the term Liberal taste bad even to me.
Having said that, it seems that, while we are drinking our absinthe, we could be (in a refined and civil fashion) discussing the broad and deep array of issues that make our country a shitpile right now. Who's up?
Well, I guess most folks would consider me a bleeding heart liberal.... I believe in equal rights for all. I believe in the women's right to choose. I am pro-choice. I believe abortion is between a woman and god. I'm against the death penalty and hope nothing in my life changes that! Some people would say that these stances are contradictory and in the end, believe that I have the right to be contradictory and change my mind if I want. However once that is said, the common denominator is that these decisions/ judgements should be between an individual and their conscience. An individual and "their god". We will all be judged one way or another and perhaps is a question of what we can live with personally. I've never had an abortion and am not quite sure I could live with that personally. I'm glad I've never had to make that choice. Far be it from me to judge! I'm hopelessly flawed! Do I have the right to condemn someone to death? I hope I never have to make that decision and question the death penalty. What if it's the wrong person? How can we live with that or make repairs for that?? As far as our current economic situation goes, I'm struggling along with others and have no answers and can only hope that all turns out all right.
I discuss enough politics on my facebook page to get into it deep here, ha ha..

Socially conservative, libertarian at heart, strongly anti-NWO. Probably best to just leave it at that and not read you guys' posts!

Hardline Monarchist and Truly European Conservative with strong anti-democratic, anti-communist, anti-socialist, anti-liberal, anti-anarchist influences. Been studying political studies at Rzeszów University, used to be involved in some parties.
You had to go there. There is no middle anymore. What annoys the most about politics is there is no middle; both sides of elected officials are in bed. Everyone talking about it does not care about middle of the road solutions, and just wants to bitch and whine, and protest. No one cares about practical solutions, and if they came, by their protesting to a solution, they would forget in five minutes flat, and go back to the same culture that created the mess in the first place. Yes, crying baby you produced the crap that is in your diaper. While I can smell it; I don’t feel sorry for you. Times are bad but knee jerk reactions are not going to get us anywhere. What we need are practical solutions, and no one gives a crap about that, way to show them guys, keep bitching and moaning and protesting, lets see what that does. We no longer have parties just assholes, or political activists just more assholes, and assholes are like opinions. I am making a new party, which is called “Shut the Fuck up until you have something useful to say”.
"Diplomacy is an art of hiding your intentions"-Machiavelli
Oh, come on Ben, don't be a chicken! Dive in! A couple of questions to get you started; is there really such a thing as the "New World Order", and if so, have you seen Zeitgiest? Second, is it possible to be a liberal libertarian? Doesn't being (oh, wait, this is three questions) a libertarian at all place you fundamentally at odds with social conservatism?
Believe me, if there were a NWO, I'd be opposed to it too!
Caravano, yes I had to go there!
I'll leave you, for now, with the proposition that people should be free, but corporations and governments should not.
You will find that polar opposites in this whine fest both hate large corporations. I wonder why? Is this something innate? If you believe in a separation of church and state, this only a new church, the church of money, or an older church, that has gotten too powerful. I do not blame the church; I blame those same whiners that brought it into power, by wanting things cheaper and faster, by any means, without regards to the repercussions. It is your bed so sleep in it.
Um, no. Not the case, at all. While there might be some way to philosophically conflate the idea of a church and the idea of a large, profit driven corporation, it does no good to simply throw up your hands and say, "It is your bed so sleep in it". Where is the personal responsibility of the people that run the corporations? Where is the responsibility of the legislators that give them the tax incentives to focus their spending in particular areas of the economy, or the regulatory freedom (or lack thereof depending on your point of view)?
You have to blame the "church". It is the tip of the spear that needs to be cleaned.
If one was to focus money to small business, which is just now starting to catch on, it is money going to a tighter ship(s) that will create more jobs with the same amount of money. Or we could keep dumping J P Morgan Chase. Last year thier profits were so high that they gave out lots of bonuses, and tucked away about 30 billion as a cushion. Then they are giving out 5 million to the charity of popular opinion, really nice guys or cheap advertising.
Political discussion is pointless IMHO. Both parties have their core values but the representatives of either party, to get elected, prostitute themselves out to such an extent that they damaged goods by the time they are elected.
Said situation being, IMHO the reason we need more political discussions.
I worked for the DNC on & off for years. I'm not a democrat, I was just good at gaming the system for those that paid me (and the DNC pays very well). It's not going to change, there are too many people (influence peddlers) that make a lot money off it. You have to take care of them before you can get to the decision makers and they have no interest in fixing the system. The funny part is the decision makers eventually turn into the influence peddlers when they are out of office so it all feeds on itself.
I think we are on the same point.
right.
