This list is a mess.... I need help! Help me O' Might and Powerful Absinthe Intellects!
What do you mean by traditional?
I would cross some outta as those that do not belong.
Which is what I told her weeks ago, but it doesn't seem like she cares to listen.

As I told you before, Teo, scouring the internets, finding every ingredient that idiots looking to make homebrewed steepsinthe, doesn't mean you're finding real absinthe ingredients.

As I also told you before you left the WS, a simple search on that forum would have brought up Gwydion's list of practically every absinthe ingredient he's found in historical texts.
hehe, yup. He did that in one of my threads back when I was as annoying as a two year old in the why stage.

His list:
Grand Wormwood
Green Anise
Fennel Seed
Melissa
Hyssop
Petite Wormwood, aka Roman Wormwood
Alpine Wormwood (possibly a genepi)
Angelica Root
Angelica Seeds
Angelica Tops
Aniseed
Bitter Almond
Black Alder Root
Calamus
Caraway
Cardamom
Cassia
Chamomile
Cinnamon
Coriander
Elecampane
Galangal
Genepi
Lemon Rind
Mace
Marjoram
Mint
Orris Root
Peppermint
Powdered Licorice (as a fining agent)
Roman Chamomile
Sage
Sassafras
Star Anise
Veronica
Violet Root

Which has less than you have, but has bonus listings, too!
Thank you Density! Gwydion's list sounds quite appetizing if I do say so.
Ya thanks for the help guys. I have alot of work do to before this is done.

Traditional ingredients would be ones used from about 1750-1900.
Are you writing a book?
Nope, not writing a book... I'm just trying to get some good info about absinthe so I can spread it around the ethnobotanical community.
If you want to spread around the info, save your time and just send them to the Virtual Absinthe Museum and the Wormwood Society main pages, and tell them to buy the Absinthe Encyclopedia. That way, you don't risk giving them wrong info.
Brian, Brian, Brian. If I had Obama's finger right now, I'd wag it at you. What we NEED, is for the info present at the locations you mention, to be present here as well, after being digested and filtered through the TARN forum's personality. IMHO that is.

I'm glad that FV and WS are out there, they are resources without peer. But if all we do is send people there, why are we here? Ben could just put up a sign on the interwebs that reads, "FV, WS, thattaway -->". That wouldn't be any fun, now would it?

What if Gwydion had believed the wags at FV and LL when they said there was no reason for WS to exist? Where would we be now?
This is the only Absinthe site I seem to be able to get on... and y'all seem fairly accepting (*shocked*).

I think I'll put my time and effort into this awesome site!

List without botanical names kinda suck...

For example... What is Aniseed? if Green Anise is Pimpinella anisum? Star Anise? Also know as Illicium verum?
Mods... did y'all change the rules on editing? I want to edit my first post but I can't! I just want to update it instead of posting the same thing over and over... but I can't! O well... here is the updated list!

i need help adding botanical names where they are missing.
Hey kittens, you either like pepsi or coca-cola (had to rephrase from my original "coke", because I did not want T' to get the wrong idea); this is simply what this is and that is what that is.

You will have to figure me for being in an unusually good mood; a few opportunies opened the door today, and I just had some marathon sex. I would suggest the same for the both of you, not necessarily together, but with the ones you love.

T' I don't understand your argument, do you?

Cheers

Are you fucking kidding me dude?

Cocaine is a horrible, addictive drug and if you think that is what I'm into then your crazy.

Quote:You will have to figure me for being in an unusually good mood; a few opportunies opened the door today, and I just had some marathon sex.

I really could care less about your mood or the sex you are having.

Quote:T' I don't understand your argument, do you?

Ya. I do.
Try the sex thing; you might be more centered. Sorry for discounting you from sex.
If you can't take a joke, give up now you are doomed.
you're telling me you are into ethnobotanicals and don't like coca? Coca is da shiznit, hunny.
I love coca leaf, but not cocaine. There is a huge difference.
I agree wholeheartedly. Coca leaves are great, but I'd never touch cocaine again (although I used to in my youngre days). The leaves contain lots of minerals and some vitamins that are good for you. The amount of akaloid used to make cocaine is miniscule in the leaves. It takes 3 tons of leaves to make 1 kilo of cocaine.
Wow there are some smart people here! Nice!
cocaine is such a transient short buzz/effect and massively illegal and yes, I think it does aid and bet terroristic-like events and violence and it does turn people that abuse it into selfish assholes ...
I hate when that happens. Wink
