The Absinthe Ritual-

1)Pour a dose of Absinthe into the glass (about 1oz).
2)Place a sugar cube in the Dripper or on top of a Spoon.
3)Put the Dripper or Spoon on top of the Glass.
4)Slowly drip cold water over the sugar cube, through the Dripper/Spoon and into the glass.
5)Watch as the Absinthe in the glass mixes with the water and turns to an opalescent milky white with traces of iridescent green (Louche).
6)Stir with the spoon.
7)Smell, then taste… enjoy!

***Notes*** Never use fire during the Absinthe ritual, it is NOT traditional, it ruins the flavor of the Absinthe and is dangerous!

Absinthe should be stored at room temperature, if Absinthe gets too cold some of the oils may solidify or the spirit may turn cloudy.

Who can give me some more tips? Anything I missed?
Two things. First, smell as you pour the dose into the glass, smell as you drip, and smell as you drink. Second, you do realize that not all that paraphernalia is required, right? You can drink absinthe from anything, as long as you 've got cold water too.
I know... I'm basically trying to make a list of EVERYTHING that could possibly be used with Absinthe... did I miss anything?
Music, art, thinking and reading other threads

Snark, indeed™.
I think sucre is a preference.
Really? Enlightening stuff. Wink
Enlightenment 'R' us.

Anybody got anymore tips like the ones above?

Perhaps I should add "store Absinthe in a cool, dark place, out of direct sunlight."
Yes, that's another good newbie tip. Lotsa folks get the idea that since storing vodka in the freezer is common, then other spirits should be too. Me, I store my vodka in my gas tank, i.e. ethanol comes pre-mixed with the gas.
Haha, at least I'm not the only one who thinks Vodka is a better fuel than drink.

When I first got my absinthe... I kept it all in the fridge until Brian corrected me! Thanks Brian!
Here's another piece of paraphenalia: the absinthe pipe. I'ts a little glass gizmo that you fill with crushed ice and pour in a shot of absinthe and drink through the attached straw. I don't think they were ever used traditionally, and I have one but never use it because you just plain don't drink absinthe straight. As far as real absintheurs don't use sugar - I've been an absintheur for over 10 years and I use sugar. If that wasn't a common practice in the old days there wouldn't be such a plethora of antique spoons and designs.
I have heard of those but didn't add it because I thought it was traditional.

Exactly.
