So ... how about this damned blizzard ???????
I woke up to a literal avalanche in my backyard / patio area ... fucking ridiculous ....
22" snow here ...
walked 3 miles in it last night ... quite a work-out !!!!!!
the absinthe i'd had prior helped to tough through it and not feel the cold/pain ...
vive la absinthe
We got more of the white down here than I have seen.
We need more global warming to melt all this snow and warm up this winter.
My wife is trying to be crafty. Doing a pretty good job. Her latest thing... quilting. She's in the middle of making a quilt to sell on etsy. She waited till about 8:30 last night, when we have about half a foot of snow on the ground to slice like a quarter inch of her index finger almost completely off with a rotary cutter.
So, we had a fun trip to the emergency room with a giddy two year old, who just loved all the snow. Had to do some backtracking and alternate routes because of all the fools out trying to drive in the snow. She got six stitches to hold down a flap, and was told that it may or may not take.
snow tires and an old all wheel drive subaru, and being taught to drive with my dad every year from when I turned 16 to when I left my parents house... The only problem in getting around is the other people, but... it's still safer to stay at home*
*once you hide the rotary cutter from your wife.
Got any photos for us? I'd love to see this backyard avalanche!
Btw, "climate change" now since "global warming" didn't quite fit the bill. I'm sure it will be "Ok,-so-we-might-have-been-a-bit off,-it-was-just-an-excuse-to-impose-new-taxes change" by next year.
IT IS global warming. Just not where you and I are. The polar bears would dispute your hypothesis, I'm sure.
Oh, sorry. Carrion.
Carrion I like that; I will use it in the future. Perhaps we can ship the polar bears to 2/3 of the world this winter and then ship them back for the summer. I'm really interestest in the temperature numbers produced this from this year. Although they will probably be discarded being outliers to the theory.
Outstanding. Capital idea, that polar bear relocation project you're starting. Put me down for a donation. Send me a bill.
Mark my words on this one, this years going to be a deal breaker on that theory, and last year will not help matters either.
Well, I wouldn't disagree with you. I would say, however, that it's not a theory, but rather a pattern. A long pattern. 1 year, or even 10 do not a change in the pattern make.
Here is the first order of the bill: Polar bears shall be released into hipster bars, but only ice bars where they have a fairly natural habitat and the greatest food source.
Global warming is load of horseshit, which I have been saying ever since it became popular belief. I didn’t speak this aloud much until recently, because one could be nailed to a cross upside down by their toenails for speaking such a belief in public.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m an environmentalist in every sense of the word and very anti-corporation. I do think we are pissing on the environment whole heartedly, and we need to change these actions drastically. I do not proscribe to the idea that CO2 is changing the climate of the earth.
We created a mathematical model of the entire earth’s weather systems accounting for solar orbit, the moon’s orbit, the earths magnetic field, the chemical reactions in every level of the atmosphere, the absorption of heat through the atmosphere, the collection and redistribution of this heat from the varying materials in the ground mass and the oceans, topology, the moving of salinity in the oceans, solar flares in the sun, plate tectonics, the emissions and locations of all industry, the density and location of all plant mass and probably a dozen other things I cannot think of.
Then we used as data tree ring and ice core samples for the umpteen thousands of years before we were recording weather data. Both of these sources of data have a hell of a lot more variables than temperature. Since roughly 2/3 of this data was actually before recorded history how can we isolate temperature?
The bass tacks is we don’t know shit. To believe we do is a larger jump of faith than religion.
If you can get me an accurate model of the earth’s weather systems, please send it along. It would be much more impressive than Einstein’s unified theory if it had came to fruition.
That's the last time I talk about global warming ever; I am quite tired of the subject.
wtf have the polar bears done for me?...global warming is an excuse to create new jobs/make energy "cheaper"....those motha fuckin solar panels are made of a bunch of toxic shit...maybe i'm just bitter because I was brewing in a complete down pour in my boxers last night...motha fucka al softcore can go kick rocks...can it be deeper into spring so I can start growing stuff???? even if there is global warming it's called motha fuckin adaptation...one too many aged stouts I supposed

I like it too! Carrion or carry on!
I'd like to see some pics of this blizzard! We haven't had much snow this year so far. I should be careful.... next thing you know, I'll have to be driving in it!

I love it when it snows on the weekend and I don't have to be anywhere! Makes me want cook comfort food, read and watch old movies!

Of course all this is contingent on having enough oil to heat the house!

anyone that doubts g.w. should investigate what's happening on/in both poles .
the idea that it's not real is a construct of greed saturated right-wing petroleum and chemical interests .
get your head(s) out of your asses .
Since my political views swing so wildly that one could call me a green party/libertarian and I real hate oil and especially foreign oil, and large corporations in general and my career path thus far lies in the supposed solution to this problem; where is my motivation?
I thought we had already had the global warming talk. I guess we can re-hash. I like corn beef hash enough.
As for the whole deal... Sure, the ice caps are melting. This could be do to many things. We can argue all we want, but... it could be global warming due to all the co2 stuff. It could be just one of the earth's natural weather patterns. Remember, we're coming out of an ice age. Shucks, you have to look at things like soot on the polar ice caps, too. Ice is nice and reflective, but all that black crap soaks up heat and makes the ice melt. And it always sits on top (unless you bury it with more snow).
And sure, we have cold days and winters which might point away from global warming, but that's really not thinking to the best of your ability. Think of dropping ice into a cup of water sitting out on a warm day. The water should get warmer, but initially gets colder due to the melting ice. But if you look at the entire system (drawing the glass as the system), heat is flowing in. Eventually it will come to room temperature. And who wants a room temperature absinthe?
And who wants a nice cool absinthe (without the ice cubes, please)? I do.
So, lets drink our absinthe and remember what arguing on the internets makes us.
And AGP, do you not have a facebook account? I kinda wish I didn't. I'm so sick of everyone thinking snow is original. LOOK! I have a porch with snow on it! I can't tell you how many people rushed out to take pictures of their grills to throw onto facebook. Some kind of peer pressure, I guess.
and the babies playing in the snow are worse. Cause you are sick of seeing the babies because the damn people post pictures of their damn kids every other day. 'Look, it's baby Emma! She's laying on the floor cause she can't do anything else! Isn't she cute? She's so advanced, isn't she? I mean, she can lay there!'
So... as requested, pictures of snow. (with bonus kids playing in them, cause I'm that kind of mean.)
yup. that's even me in the second one. The other is my kid, Loki. Ain't he cute?
Agreed
Although I do think we should ship polar bears to ice bars for the winter.
Yup, density! I do not have a facebook account. I'm kind of an anachronism, since I didn't grow up with computers. We actually wrote hand written papers when I was getting my bfa! hahaha! Can ya believe it?? I'm showing my age here but oh well.... I just got a cell phone recently! hahaha! Held out for as long as I could but I drive pretty far for work so I thought it'd be safer to have one for any emergency. Thanks for the pics! and Loki is adorable!
Caravano, I like your idea about shipping polar bears to ice bars... it's the least we could do since... well, you know!

In light of density's efforts to make peace I won't say anything else about GW.
What I will ask is if your son Loki is a fan of the pro wrestler Low-Ki.
Hell of an athlete, he is...
Low-Ki about to do a turnbuckle face stomp onto a downed opponent. He's about 12 feet in the air in this picture.
erm... we were more in hope of him becoming a salmon fisher.
mroe seriously, we really struggled to come up with names. We both liked Loki, and I really liked the character, too. He got painted as a bad guy when christianity came through, when before there was no such thing as evil in the mythos. He was a go between between the worlds of the law of the gods and the chaos of the giants, and was the closest thing to a thinker and a scientist in the bunch. Sure, he got everyone into trouble, but also got them out. And had a hell of a time doing it. If you want to talk about these things in far more detail, I can go on. But... in the meanwhile, I'm going to go keep Loki from jumping off the third cushion off the couch to body slam his stuffed doggie![/size]
With all this snow I'm not happy. The weekend snow and what is expected for Tues. through Wed. should give us a seasonal total of somewhere between 60-70". (Including the Dec. storm). I'm hoping the package from across the pond arrives tomorrow since I don't think I'll see it on Wed. I never minded the snow that much since most of my time in it was spent fishing the Salmon River for steelhead. NY state does such a good job of clearing the stuff. But then the snow here has now reached historic proportions.
mailman arrived yesterday with chains on his tires to drop off a box with some grape based clandestine. Fastest overseas absinthe order I've ever had filled! (course last time I ordered anything like that was back during the prohibition, and when it took months to get your bottle of whatever.)
