Kamal was kind enough to shoot me an e-mail with a heads up that Edward III is now available for pre-order.

From the description:

Edward III is an up and coming New York absinthe company started by two ambitious young men named Edward Jahn and Mark Maurice. Full of creativity, both men had been involved in a variety of projects. Edward is an accomplished musician and artist, while Mark is involved with a company that makes non-toxic, green cleaning products. Neither one of them ever thought they would eventually create their own brand of absinthe. Using the facilities of a New York distillery, the creators were able to bring their ideas to life. Their hard work paid off, resulting in a high quality, Swiss La Bleue style absinthe.

This crystal clear absinthe has a creamy white louche with beautiful blue tones throughout. Slighty lower levels of anise allows this to be a subtle yet complex spirit with rich flavors of herbs, citrus fruits, and baking spices. With 58% alcohol, this is an easy drinking absinthe that can be paired with different entrees. Edward III has no added sugar or coloring and is made with 100% organic ingredients. Enjoy!

That's a heck of a strange background on those two. Anyone tried a pre-release of this yet? Edward said he'd said me some once it was finalized but didn't get back to me, so I'm no help here. Smile
I met with Edward and Mark on Thursday and tried some of their trial run. It's pretty darned good. Even though I don't care too much for blanches and le bleus, I could drink this. I'd put it up along with CLB and Blanchette as one that I'd stock on a regular basis at home.

Apparently they used both green and star anise, but significantly reduced the star in the most recent batch. That should be how the commercial run will be as well.

Yeah, I put my order in. Gave me a chance to get the CLB missing from my collection.
Yeah, he Twittered me and said you really enjoyed it, and from what you've said here, seems he wasn't kidding. They've been playing it pretty low-key, but this positive nod sparks my interest.
Another forum member was with me and he enjoyed it as well.

I just hope the final offering is as good. I heard they were having scaling issues.
Kirk, agreed. I think the market may already have reached it's saturation point for the demand. But at least this is a blanche. I suppose there are fewer of those being produced in the US. I'll give this a whirl if I get the opportunity, but I won't go out of my way to buy a bottle.
I'd say in many markets, that's true. There are still plenty of markets that don't carry anything good yet though.
Truth. From what I hear, Canada is still pretty weak, both in demand and supply.
I think Brian may have meant certain States within the USA. Which would still be true.
Tell me about it. My state is shit.

Ha! There is excellent CLB and there is wonderful Pere Francois, why would we need another blanche/la bleue?

Look at Switzerland, the market is full of more or less correctly-crafted anisettes and very few absinthes. The selection is as vast as possible, yet people choose what they should choose. It was clearly illustrated by people's choices in Boveresse, you might have had a sip of Racine or La Motisanne or Jeannotte to check it, but should you want a glass of absinthe, you were reaching for CLB, La Ptite, Les Valotes, or...Żubrsinthe, if I was aroundTongue
I thought it was decided that Żubrsinthe, while drinkable, wasn't actually absinthe.

I don't recall where, maybe it was over at FV, but the pictures I saw from Boveresse looked like a solid fun time.

It was only David's opinion. And Żubrsinthe, although a joke:angel:, meets definition. IF FG meets it, why would not Żubrsinthe?

That looks like a big IF there. Is that deliberate on your part?
In a sense-yes, Żubrsinthe is stronger in abv and better coloured (although I am not satisfied with the intensity of the tinge yet and that I am working more on). In fact, I am not satisfied with Żubrsinthe at all (maybe the label and the louche, haha)

But, be gentle with David, he actually knows something, I hear he makes absinthe, too. However, the fact he has not brought anything new to Boveresse made people wonder.
Boveresse or Pontarlier?
