Eichelberger 70 Verte Absinthe Review:

-70% abv, .5 litre

-Country of Origin: Germany

-One of the seven brands from the Eichelberger distillery

What the hell is going on?  Last I remember Germany produced nothing but shit absinthes like Tabu and Abtshof.  But it’s a new era, and I find myself asking a question I would normally reserve for a French or Suisse brand…”how can one little drink deliver such joy?”

What's this?  Did somebody just pour me a glass of milk?  Oh wait, that’s my absinthe.  VERY white louche,-even creamier than the Eich I tried last time (which was pretty good itself). It thickens up tight as a knot in a jiffy!

There's tons of hyssop, notable cinnamon, and a background of rosemary in the aroma with plenty of other herbs wafting in and out.  It’s a lot of smells at once, but overall is a very sweet, almost fruity aroma with an outdoor vibe.  It’s really just heavenly; instantly mouthwatering.  Melissa, and more than likely some orange peel, contribute to the vivid fruitiness.  Wow.

The large amount of hyssop is still there post-louche, but also a stronger emergence of pine (worthy of the Lake & Trail brand) and now some anise; the cinnamon is still there, too.  Good God, it’s just got a little bit of everything, but the herbs are clearly balanced very delicately by an expert hand.  Tasting Eich 70, there’s still plenty of the intensely herbal, earthy pine with some anise, and the fruity notes take a backseat to the hyssop.  It glides in your mouth like satin, almost no heat at all upon swallowing, very little numbing.   Also in a very limited amount was the content of wormwood, but it doesn't hurt an uncharacteristic absinthe like this at all.  A very sweet, FRESH tasting finish, almost that I’d find in a citrus-y la bleu!  I like it!

I can say with absolute certainty that Eichelberger 70 Verte is one of the best brands of absinthe in all of Germany: truly good to the last drop.  Believe me, I know- I sat there five minutes with the glass upside-down for that last drop, and it was just as good as the first.  Then, once the bottle was empty, I cried like my pup had just been hit by a freight train…

Other Notes:   This absinthe was reviewed aged under 6 months.  I enjoyed this absinthe best at 3:1 without sugar, at room temperature.  In case you haven't noticed, this stuff is pretty yummy.
